SOLAR PROJECTS


The four regions of the Union Territory of Puducherry have an average solar irradiance of 5.6-6.0 kWh / square meter / day and about 300 sunny days in a year, therefore, offering a good solar energy potential. REAP set up the following in its regions.

OFF-Grid SPV Plant

  1. 5 Kwp Off Grid Connected Solar Power Plant was installed at Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry. This plant generates 9000 units /year and 80% of their requirement is fulfilled by Solar Power.
  2. 10 KWp Solar Off-Grid Power plant at Forest Department, Puducherry. This plant generates 36000 units /year and fulfills 80% of their requirement is from Solar Power.
  3. 3 Kwp Off Grid Solar power Plant was installed at Stationary and Printing Department, Puducherry. This plant generates 5400 units /year and 80% of their requirement utilizing Solar Power.
  4. 2 KWp Solar Powered Scooter shed at REAP Office

SOLAR NET METERING SPV PLANT

First Grid Connected Solar Power Plant in Government Building with Net-Metering facility.
      5 KW Grid Connected Solar power plant was installed in Energy Education Park at Lawspet. This plant has capacity to Generate 9000 units/year. The excess power will be exported to Grid during holidays. It is a demo project for creating awareness among the public.


SOLAR STREET LIGHTS

      150 LED Streets were installed in various Hostels for Scheduled Caste students in Puducherry/Karaiakl. 10 nos of Solar LED street lights were installed in Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Gorimedu, Puducherry



CONCENTRATED SOLAR TCHNIQUES (CST) BASED HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS

      A Solar Steam Cooking System at Central Prison, Kalapet, Puducherry as part of the CST based heating system.The system was set up as part of the efforts to promote off-grid applications of solar energy (both SPV and Solar Thermal) for meeting the targets set in the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission for Phase-I


      The Government has launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, which is a major initiative of the Government of India and State Governments to promote ecologically sustainable growth while addressing India's challenges of energy security challenge and Climate change.

  1. Total Kcal Generated by the system is 1,20,000 Kcals/day is equal to 11kgs Cost of LPG and equals to Rs.572/- per day.
  2. The mission aims to create awareness and demonstrate effective and innovative use of Solar systemsfor individual/ community/ institutional/ industrial applications.
  3. To create a paradigm shift needed for commoditization of off-grid decentralized
  4. Solar applications and also to encourage replacement of kerosene& diesel, wherever possible.



NON-SOLAR PROJECTS

BIOGAS - DEMO PLANT

      The Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry (REAP)has installed one number of 1 meter cube Biogas plant for a demonstration model at Energy Education Park, Lawspet, Puducherry.


  1. Area required for per metre cubic is 16 sq.ft.
  2. Required raw materials : 5 Kg of food waste/ Cow dung and 5 litres of Water.
  3. Application: Smart Kitchen for Boiling, Frying etc
  4. Output: 2-3 Hours Burning efficiently like LPG.

WIND RESOURCES

       The National Institute of Wind Energy, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy sanctioned two 80m tubular wind monitoring stations for U.T. and they were successfully installed in Kirumampakkam, Puducherry and T.R Pattinam, Karaikal.

ENERGY CONSERVATION

LED Village campaign programme

      The campaign was held to replace existing incandescent bulbs in households with LED bulbs and existing high power consuming street lights into energy efficient LED Street Lights. It was successfully implemented in four villages Irulanchandai, Bahour Pet, Kuruvinatham Pet and Pudunagar in January 2016. Approx Energy saved is 190827 KWh/yr.


DEMO LED STREET LIGHT PROJECTS

      REAP has installed 270 nos of LED street lights as pilot project on a 4 km stretch from Pillaichavady to Kanagachettikulam on East Coast Road, Kalapet. Approximate Energy saved is 610923 KWh/yr.



DEMO LED LIGHTING PROJECT

       A demo LED lighting project on the Energy Efficient Lighting System at Raj Nivas was successfully completed in March 2016.
Approx Energy saved is 75476 KWh/yr.
